Inter Faith Week 2014

Inter Faith Week
Sunday 16 to Saturday 22 November 2014

This year is the sixth anniversary of Inter Faith Week, with more events in Leicester and Leicestershire than ever before.

One highlight of Leicester’s Inter Faith Week is the exhibition in Highcross, which has taken place every year since Inter Faith Week began in 2009. The exhibition has received footfall of more than a quarter of a million each time. For the sixth year running, Highcross is generously hosting this display for the whole of Inter Faith Week 2014.

The exhibition features a professional display, created in association with Highcross to fit in with its surroundings, showcasing the eight communities represented on Leicester Council of Faiths: Bahá’ís, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs. Volunteers from all these groups have taken part in the past, along with other people from city and county who want to express their support for community cohesion and harmony in diversity.

This event is just about the only time that all these religions are seen together, making it a very distinctive event, even in our diverse multicultural, multi-faith city.

As in previous years, the call is going out for volunteers to front the display and chat with members of the public who stop by. If you’ve done this before and enjoyed it, please consider doing it again. If you haven’t taken the opportunity already, why not join in this time?

The exhibition in Highcross has always been enjoyable and interesting, for those who volunteer as well as those who visit it. I hope you’ll be able to sign up – and maybe persuade a friend to join you (if so, please enter names of all those who want to be involved).

Follow the link below to the Doodle poll and indicate which day(s) and time(s) you’d like to volunteer on the exhibition. Please only put your name down for those slots which you know you can definitely attend. Only two people are needed for each two-hour shift. Once a slot has been booked, it is not available to anyone else.

The Doodle poll asks you to provide an email address and mobile phone number before registering your interest. This allows us to remind you of your slot in advance, so that you can confirm that you’re still available nearer the date and time. Your details will not be seen by anyone else.

I hope you’ll be able to respond positively and we look forward to you joining in. If you’re not able to do so, please pass share this with someone who can.
